National Movement & Event Requirements

New South Wales

From 1 July 2008, Travelling Horse Statements are no longer required to move horses within or into New South Wales.

The last green zone in NSW has been reverted to a white zone.

Event registrations are still required and further information about how to register your event can be found on the NSW DPI website. Alternatively, phone the hotline on 1800 675 888.

Australian Capital Territory

From 1 July 2008 Movement Statements will no longer be required to move horses within or into the ACT.

Events Registration is still required for any gathering of 10 or more horses from three or more properties, and where the animals are moved to the event and back to their premises of origin within five days.

The movement of empty vehicles is unrestricted but biosecurity measures are still important.

Queensland

From 30 June 2008 you do not need a permit (Waybill or Declaration) to move horses within or into Queensland.

You must notify DPI&F if you are going to run a horse or donkey event of any nature (this includes race meetings right through to pony club gatherings). You can register your event online at the DPI&F website.

South Australia

From 1 July Horse Health Statements will no longer be required for the movement of horses within or into South Australia, regardless of their state or territory of origin. This also applies to products, equipment and horse vehicles.

It is recommended that all horse events be registered. EFA affiliate members should register their event with the Equestrian Federation of Australia (South Australian Branch), and can do so on their website. Alternatively, phone the SA EFA (08) 8234 2700.

All other events should be registered with HorseSA, on their website or by phoning them on (08) 8294 2460.

Victoria

From 1 July 2008 you do not need a Victorian Horse Entry Declaration to move horses, donkies and their equipment or vehicles into Victoria. There are no movement restrictions on horses and donkies already situated in Victoria.

It is recommended that events involving 10 or more horses from 3 or more properties be registered with the Victorian DPI. Organisers and attendees should also read the event biosecurity guidelines.

Tasmania

From 1 July 2008 there is no longer a requirement to complete a Tasmanian Horse Importation Declaration if you are importing a horse from Australia's mainland. No movement restrictions apply to horses already situated in Tasmania.

For people holding horse or donkey events, you are strongly encouraged to apply good biosecurity measures - as provided on the DPI&W website and use the EFA's Declaration Form.

Northern Territory

There are no restrictions on events and the movement of horses and donkeys in relation to equine influenza.

While event registration is not compulsory it is recommended that event organisers keep records and put in place biosecurity measures at their event.

Western Australia

Horses from all Australian states and territories are free to move into Western Australia providing they meet normal import conditions and have a signed Movement of Stock to Western Australia form.

Horse gear can also be imported provided it is free of any contaminants including soil, weeds, seeds and pests.

While event registration is not compulsory it is recommended that event organisers keep records and put in place biosecurity measures at their event. All these forms and information is available on Procedures for WA Horse Events.
