Important information for Queensland CHAP applicants:
Following the announcement by the Queensland Minister for Primary Industries on 13 March 2008 that amber zones in Queensland would become green zones as of 14 March 2008, the Commercial Horse Assistance Payment 3 in Queensland has now ceased. Applicants have until 20 March 2008 to submit funding claims for the Commercial Horse Assistance Payment 3, for the period from 9 February 2008 to 13 March 2008 (inclusive), to the appropriate delivery organisation.

Commercial Horse Assistance Payment
Queensland applicants have until 20 March to submit their round 3 applications for this financial assistance.
A Commercial Horse Assistance Payment (CHAP) will be available to primary carers whose racing, harness or other income-generating horses that are:
- located in a restricted movement zone (red, purple or amber) as specified by the Department of Primary Industries (Queensland and New South Wales) on 9 February 2008 movement restriction zone
- were in work on 9 February 2008 and remain in work
- have been unable to undertake their normal activities, and could otherwise have generated an income, if not for the quarantine restrictions in place
- horses and applicants must be able to meet all other eligibility criteria.
This payment will make sure horses receive adequate care, and remain fit and healthy during the current quarantine restrictions, so that all horse industries can make a swift and full recovery as soon as the standstill is lifted.
CHAPs will be administered by the relevant racing and harness authority in each state and territory, based on stable returns. For other commercial horses, the state Equestrian Federation will administer payments.
Payments based on a daily rate will be paid to horse carers on a fortnightly basis.
Daily rates to be paid directly to the primary carer are as follows:
- NSW Metropolitan Thoroughbreds $50
- NSW Provincial Thoroughbreds $45
- NSW Country Thoroughbreds $40
- NSW Metropolitan Harness $20
- NSW Provincial/Country Harness $20
- QLD Metropolitan (Bris, GC) Thoroughbreds $45
- QLD Country Thoroughbreds $40
- QLD Harness $20
- ACT Thoroughbreds $45
- ACT Harness $20
- Non-racing horses $20

The CHAP is available for eligible horses until 14 March 2008 or until the movement restrictions are lifted, whichever happens first.

The Non-Government, Not-For-Profit Equestrian Organisation Grants closed on 25 January 2008. No new applications will be accepted.
